UPDATED: Former Bengal ‘dropped for a loss’ at Indiana casino

first_imgOhio County, In. — Former Bengal Adam “Pacman” Jones was arrested Wednesday morning at the Rising Star Casino for resisting arrest, intimidation, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct.Sometime between midnight and 3 a.m. Indiana Gaming Commission agents were called to investigate possible cheating at a table game. In a press release officials say, “IGC responded to the table games room, and upon arrival, the patron immediately became verbally combative and disorderly with IGC Enforcement Agents and RSC personnel.”Dearborn-Ohio County prosecutor Lynn Deddens says, “Adam B. Jones was taken into custody early this morning, February 27, 2019. At this time, charges are being finalized. Mr. Jones will receive his initial hearing in the afternoon of Thursday, February 28 in the Ohio County Courthouse. All charges and affidavits will be released.”Jones played seven games with the Denver Broncos last year and was released in November. An attorney for Jones, Del Weldon released the following statement:Adam was gaming at a table set up by his casino host with his friends, as he has done many times before. He was approached by gaming agents and falsely accused of cheating. He was arrested merely for reacting in the way any of us would. No one wants to be called a cheat, and we all have a right to stand up for ourselves. There is no reason he should be forced to sit in jail this long on mere allegations. He should be home right now with his family, as he is presumed innocent in the eyes of the law.We are confident that we will be treated fairly tomorrow in court so Adam can be released and we can begin to show what really happened last night. His charges should not be elevated or increased simply because of who he is. Justice should be blind and we should all be treated equally by the law. I would ask everyone not to rush to judgment, the facts will show that Adam was not in the wrong.last_img read more

Odegbami wants Obafemi Awolowo Stadium (Liberty Stadium) returned to Oyo

first_imgRelatedPosts Oyo: Only 7,000 out of 67,000 applicants for teaching job scored 50% in CBT Makinde: Alternative Project Funding Approach working for Oyo State Makinde installs new Alamodu of Ago-Amodu Ex-international, Segun Odegbami, has advocated for the return of Obafemi Awolowo Stadium (formerly Liberty Stadium) to Oyo State Government to enhance its revenue generation. He made the call on Wednesday during the Best Ogedegbe Memorial Lecture held at Government College Hall in Ibadan. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the event was organised by Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria , Oyo State Chapter in conjunction with Best Ogedegbe family.NAN reports that the late Ogedegbe manned the goal post for Nigeria’s senior national soccer team, then known as the Green Eagles, when they won the African Cup of Nations for the first time in 1980.The legendary goalkeeper died on September 28, 2009 at the age of 55, following an eye surgery which made him fell into coma.Odegbami called on Governor Seyi Makinde to secure the return of Obafemi Awolowo Stadium to Oyo State Government towards converting it into the home of the biggest football club in Africa.“Let the stadium be converted into the home of the biggest football club in Africa at a time. The club that represents the movement of the Yoruba people that is located in Ibadan which is called Shooting Stars, not 3SC then.“Name the stadium Shooting Stars International Stadium. Let that stadium generate revenue and social engagement. Let the club become the best football club in Africa,” he said.Odegbami, who decried the degradation in the sports sector, said the need to get the right people who have experience and qualification to take charge of the sector.“We need to get the right people. Those who have done it. Those who have experienced it. Those who have the qualifications, who have expeforrience not politicians to man our sports.“Politicians have erroneously misinformed government all over this country that government does not need to spend money on sports,” Odegbami lamented. He said that it was the statutory responsibility of government to take care of their own sports, particularly at developmental level. The ex-international also begged Makinde to look into Shooting Stars and transform it into that movement again for Ibadan, Oyo State and Yoruba race. Also, former Senator Shehu Sanni of Kaduna South Senatorial District, said that ex-players needed to be paid for their services to the country to make sports more attractive.“The sports sector needs funding from government and the private sector. You can’t be preparing for Olympics when it is simply two to three months to Olympics. You will get nothing,” he said.He said there was the need to inaugurate a Sports Advisory Council to be inhabited by those who have represented the country in their lives.“We have seen great men who served this country like Mudashiru Lawal, Rashidi Yekini, Okwaraji, Aloysius Ochebu. Many of these people who worked tirelessly to bring glory to our country, but at the last phase of their lives abandoned.“Right now, we also have many who have played for Green Eagles and Super Eagles who have brought joy to our country and are suffering. Unfortunately, nothing is done about them,” Sanni said.Ex-Olympic champion, Prof. Lee Evans, regretted why athletes in the country had to suffer, calling on the private sector to be involved in the development of talents for the country.“Where I come from, it is not the government who gives money to sports, it is the lot of people around you. It is the university that trained me. It is through education that I became an Olympic champion.“Nigerians need to think of how to support the young athletes without the government having to give money. The U.S. Government does not give one dime to U.S. Olympic team,” he said.Tags: Obafemi Awolowo StadiumOyo StateSegun Odegbamilast_img read more

Pogba’s comeback delayed due to illness – Solskjaer

first_imgRelatedPosts Watford tempts Troost-Ekong with five-year deal EPL: Red Devils attack Palace Pogba begins 14-day self-isolation Paul Pogba’s return to Manchester United’s first team has been delayed after the French midfielder fell ill, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Tuesday. The 26-year-old Pogba has only played six times this season after suffering an ankle injury in September. Solskjaer is hopeful Pogba will be available before the end of the year. But the latest setback has ruled him out of Wednesday’s League Cup quarter-final against League Two side Colchester United at Old Trafford. “Of all things, he’s struck down ill now,” Solskjaer told reporters. “He’s been off for two or three days — three days probably — so that’s not beneficial. That’s probably set him back quite a bit. “We just need to get him match fit. He might be half an hour, 45, 60, 90 minutes — who knows — in the first game. We’re working hard to get him back, but now he’s ill”. Manchester United slipped to sixth place in the English Premier League after Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Everton. But Solskjaer said he was impressed with academy graduate, Mason Greenwood, who scored his seventh goal for United across all competitions this season. Solskjaer said he is considering giving the teenaged striker a run of games to see if he can extend his purple patch in front of goal over the festive period. “He’s making it hard for me to leave him out,” the Manchester United manager added. “I remember when I came to the club and I kept scoring a few goals, and even though I felt I could have performed better, the manager’s comments were `It’s hard to keep players who score out of the team’. “It’s very, very difficult now to put a team out there without having Mason in my mind.”Tags: League CupOld TraffordOle Gunnar SolskjaerPaul Pogbalast_img
